East Fife opened up a massive 16-point lead at the top of Division Three with a 1-0 win at their closest rivals Montrose.
They could have scored after just 30 seconds when a dipping volley from Bobby Linn cannoned off the crossbar.
The visitors threatened again in the 11th minute when an overhead kick from Lloyd Young was tipped over the bar by Mark Peat.
Yet the home side could not hold out. Young took the resulting corner and Jonathan Smart rose to head home.
East Fife kept up the pressure and in the 38th minute, a Young drive was again saved by Peat.
Montrose improved in the second half and they went close when the ball broke off a defender and was cleared off the line by Dougie Cameron.
They then went closer still when a half volley from Stephen Black struck the bar.
