A commanding performance from Arbroath secured a deserved 2-0 victory over Elgin at Gayfield Park.

The hosts went ahead after 12 minutes when Paul Watson headed home an Andy Reilly corner.

And their lead was doubled just after the half-hour mark when Elgin goalkeeper Ally Ridgers cleared a long ball straight to Barry Sellars, who duly fired into an empty net from 35 yards.

Ridgers redeemed himself after the break when he pulled off a superb save to deny substitute Paul Tosh.

The home side thought they had grabbed a third in the closing stages but Tosh was incorrectly judged to have been in an offside position.
