Dundee gained ground on leaders Hamilton with a 2-0 victory over struggling Clyde.
On a rain soaked afternoon, the Dees lifted the spirits of their fans with a David O'Brien goal in the eighth minute.
A thunderous Derek Lyle free-kick had been well saved but the striker was on hand to a volley in the rebound.
However, the expected avalanche of goals failed to materialise as the hosts missed a number of chances with Lyle the main culprit.
Before Dundee sealed the game the visitors contrived to miss a couple of good opportunities with Jorge Alberts crashing a shot off the crossbar.
However, fans' favourite Kevin McDonald made no mistake in the 73rd minute, latching onto a long ball before coolly sliding it under the advancing keeper.
