Ayr kept their play-off hopes alive after recording a vital 2-1 win at 10-man Alloa.
The Ayr boys received a perfect start at Recreation Park when Alloa failed to clear a cross to the box leaving Gareth Ward to head into the net from six yards after only two minutes.
A surge from Alloa brought a good shot from Scott Agnew and a header by Kyle MacAulay which were both saved by Ayr keeper Mark McGeown, who then denied Brown Ferguson after 44 minutes.
In 70 minutes Alloa almost levelled, but a fine header from MacAuley rebounded off the crossbar.
Ayr added their second goal in 78 minutes with Eddie Forrest heading home a corner by Ryan Stevenson, but the home side reduced the gap after 88 minutes with a low John Grant shot.
In the 89th minute, Alloa midfielder Agnew was shown the red card for his second booking.
