Ten-man Montrose are still waiting to secure a place in the play-offs after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Forfar.
But the hosts got off to a great start when they took the lead after six minutes as Steven Doris was flattened by Neil Stephen and John Baird scored from the penalty spot.
Forfar equalised three minutes before half-time when a Chris Anton corner was knocked home by John Fraser with Montrose protesting that goalkeeper Mark Peat had been fouled.
The Gable Endies regained the lead after 55 minutes when Baird crossed for Doris to head home.
But they were reduced to 10 men after 73 minutes when Chris Heggarty.
The visitors then earned a point after 84 minutes when Chris Geddes cut in from the right and scored with a curling shot.
