Arbroath and 10-man Dumbarton contested a lacklustre no-score draw at a windswept Gayfield Park.
The home side made the better of the first-half conditions and went close on a number of occasions.
On-loan forward Brian Deasley was first to threaten after nine minutes but goalkeeper David Crawford thwarted his effort.
The home side had further chances from set-pieces with Brian Scott forcing a fingertip save following a superb overhead kick, and as the interval approached Gary Fellows' header came crashing off the woodwork.
Dumbarton improved in the second half and had a good opportunity when Fergus Tiernan's shot was well saved by Darren Hill.
The home side had a great opportunity to go ahead when Brian Scott was played through in the 68th minute but Michael O'Byrne cleared the danger with a well-timed recovering challenge.
As the match drew to a close Dumbarton's Michael Stokes was giving his marching orders following a second booking, but Arbroath were unable to push home their numerical advantage.
