Stranraer registered a 1-0 home win over Arbroath - but it was the visitors who celebrated promotion to the First Division thanks to a 2-1 aggregate victory.
For Stranraer, who had finished the league programme 13 points ahead of Arbroath, it was a bitter message to take nothing for granted until the last kick of the season.
The Blues started two goals behind after the midweek meeting but Arbroath had the perfect approach by refusing to sit on their lead and giving as good as they got.
The game took a dramatic turn when Arbroath's Craig Tully was red-carded after 15 minutes and Stranraer grabbed their only goal five minutes later through Greg Tade, but the visitors hung on to deny the home side the chance of extra-time.
