East Stirling leapfrogged Berwick in the table with a 1-0 victory that was more emphatic than the final scoreline suggested.
Michael Bolochoweckyj hit the only goal of the game for Shire after 10 minutes but the hosts could have scored many more were it not for the excellent form of Ryan McGurk in the Berwick goal.
McGurk`s first action, however, was to pick the ball out of his own net. The Berwick keeper flapped at a David Dunn corner and the ball landed at Bolochoweckyj's feet for the centre-half to stab Shire in front from seven yards.
McGurk made a point-blank save from Derek Ure's shot after 44 minutes, and after the interval the visiting goalkeeper made a brilliant save with his legs from Andy Rogers before tipping a Ure half-volley onto the post.
In between, Shire`s Colin Cramb managed to hit the post with a shot when it seemed easier to score.
The home team's fine display was marred slightly in injury time when Ure picked up a second yellow card for dissent and was sent off.
