A dubious Greg Shields' strike midway through the second half was enough to give Dunfermline all three points in a fiery 1-0 encounter against Livingston.
The visitors had the best chances of an otherwise poor first half when a deflected shot by Calum Elliot was tipped over by Paul Gallacher - then a dipping volley by Joe Hamill went just wide of the target.
Dunfermline bombarded the Livingston goal early in the second half and almost took the lead when Graham Bayne forced Roddy McKenzie into an excellent save then substitute Rory Loy saw his effort from the rebound cleared off the line by Chris Innes.
A few minutes later the home side got their reward when a Shields' header from a Stephen Glass corner crept in at the back post - despite the best efforts of Anthony McParland to clear the ball off the line
However, the linesman had flagged for a goal much to the anguish of the visiting side.
Dunfermline held on towards the end and have narrowed the gap on league leaders St Johnstone to just five points with a game in hand.
